英语中的插入语一般是对一句话做一些附加的解释,最常见的是下面这些句子包含的这一类:
a.
That will be a good beginning, I hope.希望这是一个良好的开端.
Their performance was wouderful,don`t you think?他们的表演非常精彩,你说是吗?
That`s what we can do,you know.那就是我们所能做的了,你也知道.
b.
The book,I think,is very good.这本书我觉得非常好.
The building,it is said,are going to be pull down.这幢大楼据说要被拆除了.
The film,you know,is made for Chinese students.这部影片你知道是为中国人而制作的.
在这种句子中如果我们把插入语移到句子的开头,就会成为主要成分,而原来的句子的主要部分会变成一个从句.常见的用来做这类补加成分的结构有I think,I guess,I hope,I`m afraid,I believe,I suppose,I wonder,you see,you know,don`t you think,don`t you know,I tell you,it seems,it seems to me,it is said,it is suggested等.这种结构可以放在句子末尾(a),也可以插在句子中间(b),在问句中有时也可以由这种插入语:
What performance do you think me should give at the party?
你看我们在晚会上应表演什么节目?
How long did she say she would stay here?
他说要在这里待多久?
When do you suppose they`ll be back?
你认为他们什么时候会回来?
Where did they suggest we should go during the summer holidays?
他们建议我们暑假去哪里?
